I can second this. I have some smaller issues (game is very bright (not a problem, as I can change my monitor settings) and it's sometimes quite slow) but this is finally an installer that works like a charm for me and finally I can play TR1 with all those beautifiul audiotracks that were in the PS-version.:DGame is bright because that is how TR1 is(especially with the Mipmapping). TR1 only has white lighting and NO FLARES so of course it is going to be a tad brighter than you are used to.:PTR2 was innovative because it included darkness as well as other things.;). By default 16-bit Z-buffer was requested from OpenGL. Now, a 24-bit buffer is requested if available, if not precisionfix is used (this fix was always disabled previously).

I understand your reasons, It's good practice to always use official releases.I was wondering 'cause you said that 640x480 was the maximum 'true' resolution for TR1 and that it would be upscaled (or so I understood) to fit the desktop resolution. In the build I've used, you can use true full resolution. As all the output is translated directly from Glide to pure hardware OpenGL or Direct3D calls, there's no time spent on rendering by software, so the game will perform way better on slower PCs.I have to admit I haven't used your solution.

I just thought it hadn't due to what you said about not being able to raise the resolution to a value higher than 640x480, so I assumed you were using the normal, software rendering EXEs which are pretty much CPU-dependent to run smoothly:)The build I use (which you can find in the post I've linked before in this thread) runs 'out of the box'. You unzip the build, run it, and from there you install TR and then overwrite the TOMB.EXE or TOMBUB.EXE for the 3dfx versions (found in the very same post). When you run TOMB.EXE, it just works. You can configure the resolution from the DosBox window menu and switch to full screen at will.
That way I just told the emulator to output the glide screen to 1440x900 in 32 bit, fullscreen and it worked. When I start the game, after the intro movie, the camera freezes and I only get a static image of Lara in the entrance of the cave. Well I have no clear clue what kind of issues you had and with what hardware so I can't really commentI doubt it's the x64 architecture per se though since it's been working there for many players.As I was prying deeper into my own package I found what the problem most likely was; my native resolution of the desktop is 1920x1080. With that res TextureMemorySize=16 has to be changed to 32 for some reason (I'm no computer wiz, just trying stuff until it works).Your package will most likely work fine for me with this tweak, but I've grown quite fond of my own little package so I will prob stick with that for now.:-). Well, on my Windows 7 32-bit I have problems with this too.I've installed it correctly and applied the patch, fmvs and menu are working correct, but after choosing New Game/Croft Manor it seems that the DosBox has stopped rendering.

It gives the stats for completed level then you get a shot a lara head and nothing moves. You can do stuff and hear the results like draw guns, I found a tricky work around that requires you to save the game by memory and then loading it again by memory. I press menu button,down,action,right,action,down(to new slot)action.

I could hear all the dialog. When they finished I assume the stat screen came up. I hit action and the screen went blank. I hit esc and was able to play the folly. I installed the patch and was able to watch the beginning FMV including the trek to the andes.As much as I want to play TR I'm not sure its worth not being able to watch the cut scenes.
I'm at Atlantis now.Sometimes when a triggered audio track is about to start, the game locks up completely and the sound stutters like crazy for like 3-5 seconds before the game continues and the music plays. I'm using Windows 7 64 bits.The game runs fine, I see the FMV correctly, I can jump, run, shoot, whatever I want. BUT, as soon as there is a cutscene (like after the fight with Larson), the game freezes. It really does slow down. How can it be helped?it strongly depends on one's hardware (cpu and gfx card)if performance is poor, I suggest to edit the cycles item in all tombraider.conf filessensible values usually can be tested ranging from cycles=fixed 20000 to 200000 but it's really a per machine fix (assuming it does fix anything)if the best option is passed it's easy to tell since it will all grind to a haltlockups are always possible as soon as the gfx system power is worn down. Often, the picture freezes while there is sound (Lara can move, use weapons, access the menu, etc), including cutscenes. Worse, the game often crashes if I access the menu, select a weapon from the menu, use something in my menu such as a key, and saving or loading with F5 / F6.

Hello, and thank you for your wonderful patch that allowed me to brush the dust off my 10 year old Tomb Raider disc and play it on Windows 7 x64 without hassle! Well almost:D.I had a few problems at first, but I was able to resolve them with some patience.
The issue was that when the game transitioned from stage to stage, or resumed from a load, the video would freeze up. Sometimes if I alt-tabbed and re-maximized, this would fix it. Other times, it would just show a low-resolution window stretched across the screen with no video, just black. The game was still playing but the video was missing, I could still hear my character moving around and sounds playing but no video. I was determined to fix my issue, so I did some research and discovered that the patch is using a custom build of DOSBox v0.73 that allows renderers that the official build does not.The bug is with DOSBox v0.73, I was able to resolve my issue by updating DOSBox to v0.74.
Not the official build but the builds that enable direct3d and glide found on This version is much more stable over v0.73, and I've had zero issues after updating. I strongly urge a v1.7 patch using this version of DOSBox! It even correctly shows the 'Eidos' intro correctly and has a fancy new 3DFX logo splash screen.I included a link with the updated DOSBox files. Just extract and overwrite the files in C:tombraider and we're off to the races. I only included the files that needed updating, plus a few I wasn't sure about. The shortcuts to load the game provided with the patch still work perfectly. I have win 7 x64, and everything work excellent for now, except that starting cutscene.EDIT:Ok, I didn't see Patch from gidierre, sorry. Now I have cutscenes, but game sometimes freezes. I have sound and I can hear Lara walking, or I hear rotating inventory in main menu, but picture is still.I too had this issue. I made a small 'patch' with a more recent version of DOSBox and it seemed to fix it. Tested on 4 different machines with success.
It fixes some major errors I had, but introduces some new minor ones. I posted this a page back, but use the link in this post instead. It is in zip format instead of rar, is hosted on my site instead of megaupload, and the dosbox.conf file has a resolution all monitors should support. If anyone is not having issues with video freezing, then THIS PATCH IS NOT NECESSARY AT ALL. It is ONLY for people to give it a try who are having issues with video freezing up (but can still hear sounds playing in the game).Video FreezingTHIS PATCH WILL BREAK CUTSCENES AGAIN, and items will have depth issues (pop through walls). But it will make the game playable if the video is freezing up after every load or when you enter the next stage. Not sure if it will work for everyone, but it worked for me on several computers.
You may want to backup the tombraider installation folder just in case. This was tested on sandy bridge @ 4.6 Ghz, so I'm unsure of the results on other CPUs. To make the game just a tad sharper, edit dosbox.conf and change fullresolution=1024x768 to fullresolution=1280x1024. I too had this issue. I made a small 'patch' with a more recent version of DOSBox and it seemed to fix it. Tested on 4 different machines with success. It fixes some major errors I had, but introduces some new minor ones. I posted this a page back, but use the link in this post instead.
It is in zip format instead of rar, is hosted on my site instead of megaupload, and the dosbox.conf file has a resolution all monitors should support. If anyone is not having issues with video freezing, then THIS PATCH IS NOT NECESSARY AT ALL. It is ONLY for people to give it a try who are having issues with video freezing up (but can still hear sounds playing in the game).Video FreezingTHIS PATCH WILL BREAK CUTSCENES AGAIN, and items will have depth issues (pop through walls). But it will make the game playable if the video is freezing up after every load or when you enter the next stage.

I'm not sure which installer I ended up using (I got one from somewhere on tombraiderchronicles.com in a setuptr1-1-2.zip), but I think it's at least related to the one from this thread (if only in the ground broken).Something that might help people who have to disable one or more disc drives to stop the St Francis Folly crash etc.Microsoft have a utility called devcon (part of the Windows Driver Kit) which can let you disable/enable hardware devices from the command line.or in my case a batch script. You can get it here (x86 and x64 versions included): dumped a copy of it in my TR directory (along with JoyToKey as you will see below), so I don't have to manually disable/reenable my drives every time I want to play.

Remember to run it from an elevated command prompt so it doesn't open and close another window before you've had chance to read it.JoyToKey starts with my TR profile, extra disc drives disabled (floppy might not be needed but I added it just in case), game starts, and the drives are reenabled once the game closes. The only down side is if you have UAC enabled on Windows 7 (and I guess Vista), it's a couple extra clicks/keystrokes each time since devcon has to run elevated for obvious reasons.Hope that helps someone.
One last thing.I got a strange bug at the start of St Francis Folly where Pierre didn't appear the first time (in the first room with all the pillars). Don't know if anyone else has had it. He did however appear later at the bottom of the chamber where you put the keys in at the level end. I'm running on nVidia card and there doesn't seem to be any options in the control panel to adjust graphics in OpenGL apps specifically. I remember back in the day the 3DFX Voodoo cards would also give this slightly washed/milky graphics (although not as much), so I'm guessing this behaviour today is a remnant of that. So the Vista/7/64bit version runs on Glidos and DosBox, and there really is no way to configure Glidos in this?

(less than 256 polys being the limit). We don't use the actual Level Editor to do this but instead other fan made tools such as fexmerger. Only the appearance/shape of the object changes, any objects/enemies will behave the same as long as their mesh trees match.I have no special insight how custom meshes would fit inprobably the right go-to guy would be just Paul Gardiner. HellooForgive me if I am writing in the wrong place but.I have just bought TOMBRAIDER - ULTIMATE EDITION for the sake of playing TR1.There is a TR1.bin/cue file on one of the disc of the package. There is no physical TR1 CD. So I made a virtual cd and made it work with the dosbox. There happen to be PC audio files on it and it works ok, which is great.To achieve 3dfx emulation,I am using NGLIDE and 0,74 dosbox reccomended on their site, step by step I managed to get rid of the glitches configuring dosbox.cfg. The game now runs smoothly with the aspect of 16:10 (great) and the resolution of 1920x1200.
