Alleging harassment by the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Kerala Film Producers Association, film director Vinayan has said the release of his latest movie, Yakshiyum Njanum, is being blocked by the industrys elite influential class. Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, Mr. Vinayan said the Film Chamber said that the Censor Board had certified the film in violation of rules as the Chamber had not given any clearance for the film. He said that Board had made it clear that film certification did not need clearance from the Chamber and that it had been certified legally. Even so, the producer of the film had approached the Film Chamber in October 2009 to ensure the release of the film, said Mr. But the Chamber failed to respond to the request, he added.
It is clear that the Film Chamber and the Kerala Film Producers Association are adamant about blocking the release of the film, said Vinayan. He would approach the Court if needed and surely bring out Yakshiyum Njaanum on screens as Onam releases with any big releases, he added.
It appears that the troubles for the controversial personality Vinayan are still on for a while. The latest news is that his new movie Yakshiyum Njanum has landed in a legal trouble. Apparently, both Vinayan and the producer are not members of the Film Chamber so their project has not been given a public clearance which means that the release of the film will be stalled. Vinayan from his end is approaching the High Court for this.Vinayan has alleged that the release of his film Yakshiyum Njanum has been blocked by a caucus including the superstars of Malayalam cinema. The film was slated to release today (July 30), but has not made it to the theatres.
Vinayan requested Chief Minister to clear his stand in this matter. In his statement yesterday, Vinayan added that he will not put the blame on cultural affairs Minister MA Baby, since his interference earlier made things worse. Vinayan was about to release the film after getting a censor certificate. However the Kerala Film Chamber blocked the release as Vinayan did not have the publicity clearance certificate from the chamber. The chamber executives informed that according to the regulations, only films with publicity clearance certificate from the chamber can be censored. The buzz on Yakshiyum Njanum is positive.
The film has newcomers in the lead- Gowtham, Shyam, Meghna Nair and late actor Rajan P. Devs son Jubin Raj is debuting as the villain Sajan Madhav, son of late music director Raveendran, has also made his debut as a music director with some haunting numbers.

According to television industry sources, normally a very big Hindi film is shown on television only after 100 days of its theatrical release. For her, Prithvi Theatre is an oasis in the midst of this crazy city. But Sanjana Kapoor, who has singlehandedly revived its glory, carrying forward the legacy of her parents and grandparents, rues the lack of government support as appalling. We have managed to create this little oasis out of this gem, an oasis in the midst of this crazy city that allows you to breathe, where you can engage in live performance in an intimate surrounding that is magical, Sanjana told in an interview. The sad thing is that any theatre of our kind, anywhere in the world, would ordinarily receive government grants. We, however, do not fall under any government scheme - be it state or central.
An appalling state of affairs, said the 43-year-old whose Prithvi Theatre holds about 550 shows every year, of which around 100 are childrens shows. Sanjana, the daughter of Shashi and Jennifer Kapoor, says Prithvi mainly banks on corporate aid. Prithvi Theatre company was launched by Sanjnas grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor in 1944.
But in 1960, the company was forced to close down due to Prithvirajs poor health. In the 1940s, Sanjanas maternal grandparents Geoffrey and Laura Kendal too came to India with Shakespeare and contemporary English theatre. In fact, Shashi and Jennifer met during a theatre event in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1956. A few years after Prithviraj Kapoors demise, Shashi set up a trust in his fathers memory and bought land to build a theatre to promote the performing arts. Prithvi Theatre was inaugurated in 1978.

Lal Jose will be seen doing a role in Best Actor, directed by Martin Prakkat. Lal Jose, one of the better talents in Mollywood is busy with his Elsamma Enna Anakutty. He took a day off from the shoot and did a cmaeo for the Mammotty film.
He did what he has done several times before: he directed the superstar for the camera. Lal Jose plays himself in the movie. Lal Jose, while being an assistant to Kamal, acted his real life role for Azhagiya Ravanan, a Mammootty starrer.
Later, he appeared in a brief role in Rock n Roll. He is also anchoring a programme on Amrita TV which explains to the layman the nitty gritty of filmmaking. A few months ago, Blessy had acted in an important role for a Tamil film. Priyanandanan also turned an actor recently, with Thoramazhayathu, a short film. Malayalam television channels are in no mood to lose a big film because of price. Films starring the super stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal fetch a huge price considering the size of the territories. The highest price paid for the television rights of a movie so far was 2.86 crores.
That was for megahit movie Twenty-20 paid by Surya TV. Now another Mohanlal film has broken that record and set a new record. Asianet has bought the television rights of Christian Brothers for a whopping 3 crores and this has set a new bench mark in Malayalam satellite television. Christian Brothers stars Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Sarath Kumar and Dileep in important roles. The film is about former soldier Palomattathu Varghese Mappila (Saikumar) and his sons, Christy (Mohanlal) and Joby (Dileep). Christy is a police informer in Mumbai and Joby is studying theology abroad.
Sibi and Udayakrishna pen the script. Deepak Dev scores the music. Other actors in the cast include Lakshmi Rai, Kavya Madhavan and Kaniha. Anil Nair is the cameraman. Shaji N Karuns prestigious Mammootty starrer Kutty Srank will release in cine houses on July 23.
This is Mammoottys first film with Shaji who began his career as a cinematographer and later turned to direction with Piravi in 1988. Shaji N Karuns directorial debut won him the prestigious Camera dOr Mention dhonneur at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989. Kutty Srank has already been screened at Pusan International Film Festival- Oct 09, Montreal World Film Festival- Sept 09, Mumbai Film Festival Oct 09 and the International Film Festival of India- Nov 09.
Kutty Srank is a movie layered with several emotions and shades which could only be brought to life by an actor par excellence such as Mammootty. It has been a creative and self innovating journey and will hopefully be appreciated and understood by movie lovers all over the globe, says the director. In the film Mammootty plays the title role while Padmapriya, Kamalini and Meena Kumari play female leads. The films music has been composed by Isaac Thomas. Anjali Shukla, who has previously worked on films like Tahaan and Prarambh as First Camera Assistant, is the cinematographer.
Kutty Srank (Sailor of Hearts) revolves around an unidentified body found by the police on a beach. Three women turn up, each claiming it as her Kutty Srank.
One is a wealthy woman who wants to become a Buddhist nun. The second is a woman who acts in a traditional Christian play with Kutty Srank and is later accused of murder. The third is a gentle, mute woman who, it appears, is carrying Kutty Sranks baby. She might be Tintumons follower. But she has also created a first of sorts - promoting movies through SMS. The makers of Sakudumbam Syamala, slated for release this month end, are out with a new mode of promotion, group SMS jokes circling around the lead character Syamala, played by Urvashi.
While some of the Syamala jokes are from the film itself, others have been either created by the film crew or Malayalam adaptations of famous jokes. It is a new kind of promotional activity. Now, even a small child has access to cellphone and we thought it the best way to give publicity to the movie, says its director Radhakrishnan Mangalath, adding in a lighter vein, You can even look at it as the desperate attempt of a first-time director. He is among those serial directors who have switched over to cinema from serials. Syamala is an extremely greedy and a foolish housewife. And the jokes reflect her character, says Krishna Poojappura, who has written the story and script for the movie. The idea to use group SMS jokes was put forward by his neighbour Jayakumar, who has been providing group SMS service through his firm Nanma Communications (see box) for the last one-and-half years.
We send one SMS each day and so far eight of them have come out, says Jayakumar. The director of popular comedy serials like Indumukhi Chandramathi, Sathi Leelavathi, Kootukudumbam and Thiruda Thirudi, Radhakrishnan adds on a serious note, Though we dont know who created Tintumon, Tintumon jokes are ruling the roost. And let Syamala be the female presence. When we hear about a movie, our first question is who is the hero and not who is the heroine.
In my movie, a woman is the central character. He adds, A hero-centric film can bank on fans associations during the initial days of release.
In the case of family-oriented films, the response is known only gradually and the SMSes are a way of creating curiosity about the character among the viewers. Radhakrishnan has also come up with another innovation - using caricatures during the photoshoot of the film, which has been produced by Gopakumar for Kunchuveettil Creations. Sai Kumar plays Urvashis husband, Kunchacko Boban plays their son and Bhama their daugther-in-law. In a somewhat shocking statement, actress Oviya said that Malayalam movies are quite uninteresting and boring and that only senior heroines are given their due respect.
Oviya gained recognition as an actress in the recently released Tamil film Kalavani which is doing well at the box office. It also happens to be her debut film in Kollywood. She says that she initially thought that she would be asked to play the role of a city girl; however, she was in for a surprise when she was given the role of a village girl. She says that it was the director who taught her how to walk, talk, and laugh like a village damsel. Oviya says that Tamil movies are better than the ones in Malayalam. In Malayalam films, newcomers are often ignored and preference is given only to senior heroines. She says that Tamil cinema is friendlier towards new faces and new ideas.

Jayam Raja says It is a film for the masses. Based on a story by late director Tirupathisamy, Velayudham revolves around an ordinary man, who becomes a real hero for the sake of people. The Amitabh Bachchan was in Ooty for the three-day shooting. An over-excited crew on sets has been exemplary in attitude and work ethic - there is this culture among the film fraternity in the South. There are smiling faces, group keepsake photographs, bonhomie and respect and the desire to serve; wonderful and admirable qualities that I shall carry back with me. Thank you Kandahar, Mohanlal, Major Ravi (director) and the entire unit. I have enjoyed working with you, Amitabh later wrote on his blog.
The only reason why he agreed to be part of a Malayalam film was because he was supposed to play a North Indian character and was not expected to speak the language. But the director of the film, Major Ravi had different plans.
On reaching Ooty, director Major Ravi informed Bachchan that he would have to speak Malayalam in the film, even though the script had no such specifications. Always wary of acting in regional films, Bachchan protested the directors decision, but not for too long though. He recalled speaking one line in Kannada when he made an appearance in a film called Amrithdhare, in which he played himself. But the lapse into memory was temporary.

Back from his shooting scehule in Ooty, Bachchan says, This film was different. I play a North Indian man married to a Malayali woman. So, speaking a bit of the language was natural for the character. Malayalam is a tough language for me. But I managed.
The only respite for Bachchan was, it seems, shooting with Mohanlal, an actor he admires tremendously. The two actors bonded over Uttapams and steaming cups of coffee. Bachchan adds, Earlier, I did Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag with Mohanlal. But this time I got to know him better.

The statistics might not be all that impressive when it comes from an actor hailing from a Filmy Family Background But I give myself a pass mark, Kunchacko Boban says with the characteristic smile that endeared him to the Malayali masses in the late 90s. Perhaps its this optimism that helped the actor wade his way through a series of flops and make a grand second coming with roles as different as chalk and cheese.
