There was a similar question, but that thread is locked. The name of the game is in the subject, SSI doesn't exist anymore, therefore no way to contact developers to see if there's a way to get this thing to run. I got it installed, it starts to run (screenturns to black), then I get kicked back out to the desktop. I couldn't create an ISO file, mount it on Windows 10 and see the executables as executables from the virtual drive letter, so I put all the game files in a OneDrive folder from my Windows 7 Ultimatemachine. It runs fine on that O.S. The game was created in 1999, and I just wanted to play it on my new laptop.
This laptop has no CD-ROM drive, so I have to be creative. I swear Windows 10 is awful, because it takes even more control oversomeone's machine and doesn't let you get around anything.

Including that blasted new version of Internet Explorer. But, that's another issue.Again, the game is Panzer General 3D. The game is in the era that becomes more problematic, but if it was running on Win764bit, it is very likely also be compatible withWin10 64bit.
I have only about three games that ran on Win7 64bit that don't run on Win10, but that is mostly an Nvidia thing. Two of them run on my AMD machine.I have a number of games that required a new tweak of some sort on Win10. Two from 20002002 required Win9598 with earlier Win10,but they don't need any Compatibility now. Go figure.Another, from around 2004 started crashing using Nvidia with the noCD fix on Win10, but runs well if I use the disc.I can't find any data regarding the DRM for this particular game, but if you have resorted to a cracked version DRM shouldn't bea problem. Assuming the crack has also been tested on Win7 64bit to verify it is working. If you have access to Win7 there should be no need to use a mount a cracked ISO file. Games of this vintage that have been installedfrom the disc on another machine will often run if simply copied and pasted from the other machine; using a simple noCD fix toallow it to run without the disc.PG 3D fix. (just in case)If that doesn't work you may find something in Registry that you can import to your Win10 Registry that will get it running.- I agree about Win10 having a Big Brother issue. I expect you are already aware of MS introducing DRM Blocking with Win10(and adding it to Win7 via Windows Update)?Since experimenting with the MS Store and installing the Forza demo I also avoid getting any games from the MS Store. They have gone the full Dictator with that.- Can't get around Edge?
You don't need to use Edge, or IE11 (or whichever version is going atm). You can install any browser you like. I need the registration code for the game. I no longer have the box, or can't find it.
I installed PG3D on this Windows 7 64-bit machine in 2015, but was able to get it from SSI (they were still on the internet). I will have the same issue if I have toreinstall it on this machine. Perhaps I still had the box and misplaced it in the last 4 years. And, it runs in basic video mode. Will that be a problem for Windows 10 as well? The laptop's video driver is an Intel HD Graphics 620.I did try to run it 2 ways.
Installed with an ISO mounted drive on the laptop, and completely installed into a folder on OneDrive from Office 365 of my Windows 7 machine. I uninstalled the unregistered game from my laptop before trying to run it from OneDrive.Either way, it won't run on Windows 10 64-bit. The game looks like it's going to start, then just returns to the desktop with no errors displayed. I run it as administrator and select to run it in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Both OneDrive and the ISO-mount.I need to try again with a code (or cracked version?), installed onto the laptop from the mounted drive. Anybody got one? Not even the CD-cover or manual has the code on them.
I found the registry entries in Windows 7, but none have the code I used toregister the game. Some of the registry entries are hairy AF! I already have the patched-version on OneDrive, including the Patch folder itself. But, UGH!I want to be able to play it when I'm not anywhere near my desktop. That's why I can't use a direct-connect from my laptop to my desktop through my modem. I wouldn't play that game from my laptop.
Except to get it up and running; ready to go when I leavemy house.Oh, and certain Microsoft things refuse to use my default browser and open Microsoft Edge. I have Firefox & Chrome installed on my laptop, and I can't tell you at the moment what I was doing that opens Edge. Despite my default browser beingset to Firefox. Did you know they truncate the user folder name to 5-6 characters, so it looks stupid as hell when you first install the O.S.
Of Windows 10? No, I don't like that at all.
There has been an alarming trend recently to release what amounts to an add-on pack, repackage it and try to convince the public it's a new version. Although Panzer General doesn't do this, it comes very close. The original Panzer General 3D broke all the rules for turn-based hex games. Great graphics, full 30 views and above all, no hexes. Set on the Western Front, it put you in control of either the Allies or the Axis, in battles ranging from Africa to a hypothetical German invasion of Washington. Any game that means you can send Stukas over the White House has got to be good.So along comes PGIII: Scorched Earth. Is there a new engine? Have the graphics been updated?
It's basically the original PG. The German units are unchanged from its predecessor and, although the Russian units are well modelled and very pretty, it still feels like you're playing the first version. Now the old adage 'If it aint broke, don't fix it' springs to mind and, in that respect, SSI should be given credit. But seeing as they either forgot - or avoided - putting the Western campaigns on, it kind of ruins the moment. Sure, you can still play multiplayer games with either the German, British, Russian or American units, but it would have been nice to see the imagination that was used in some ol the PG3D scenarios being put to good use here. For example, Patton wanted to attack Russia after the defeat of Germany. There are the units in the game, America Vs USSR 1945, and all it would have taken is a bit of lateral thinking. Sadly the game is devoid of that. Pretty good, but definitely not exciting in any shape of the word.
